Return of the Stegadon!

It's been a long time since I last worked on this guy but I finally took the time to focus on him for a little while and made quite a bit of progress.

I coated the entire body with Hawk Turquoise then washed it all with Thraka Green. I then applied a light drybrush of Space Wolves Grey focusing on the body but also hitting the scales a little too. I washed the scales with Devlan Mud and then gave them an extremely heavy drybrushing of Regal Blue. I rewashed the scales with Thraka Green again and then gave the whole body another light drybrushing of Space Wolves Grey.

I think the effect turned out really nicely. I'm not sure there's enough shading in the non-scales portion though. I'm going to leave it for now but I'm thinking I might give the skin a wash of Devlan Mud too and make sure I get it down into the crevices.

  1. Wow, it came out great. I'd stock up on hawk turquoise. I heard that it might be discontinued soon.

Do you have plans for the howdah? depending on how you do it, it could really set the model off.

  2. Really? That would be a shame. It's a fantastic color.

I don't really have any plans for the howdah. I was mostly only working on this guy while stuff on my Slann dried. He's my top priority right now.

Do you have any ideas that might be good?

  3. That color looks great on your Stegadon, sounds like a laborious process but the results are quite nice.

  4. I like this color scheme. It very close to what I've been doing for my lizards. I might have to borrow the turquoise/thraka green combo for my skinks, I think this looks better than the Jade Green base I'd been using.

  5. Thanks guys! I'm pretty proud of how it turned out.

I've been collecting Warhammer stuff for almost two years now but have not been very good on the painting side of things. My lizardmen are my first concerted effort to actually get a full army painted (and not look terrible).

  6. I just re-read this and thought I'd throw something out - if you do decide to go back and wash the skin with Mud, or some other concoction, you could try applying the wash only to the recesses of the skin since a Mud wash all over will really dull down the color & dry-brushes you did.

  7. Good point Alex.

I'm not planning to mess with the scales any more I don't think. They turned out really nice.

My only concern is whether or not I've gotten the skin exactly how I would want it.

  8. If Hawk Turqoise is dicontinued (which I've not heard, but is certainly possible), I think Vallejo makes a matching color (Falcon Turqoise ;)).

I've seen this in person, and I think the Stegadon looks good. I think the skin highlighting is a little too 'bright', but it's certainly better than my attempts have turned out ;).
